Think about that one thing you really don’t like about school – it’s having to homework after a long and hard day in class, right? You likely get home tired and would like to lie on your bed, veg-out on the couch, or do something that you enjoy. Unfortunately, chances are you have hours of work to complete each evening, and the routine is getting harder and harder with which to cope.
Don’t let your grades suffer because of the lack of energy or simple disinterest in doing your assignments. Here are some effective guidelines to get your homework done fast:
Get all of your materials out before starting and set them on a quiet space in your house or wherever you like doing your homework. Get rid of all distractions. This includes turning off the television, your cell phone, your computer, the radio and anything else that will keep you from doing your work. It might be a good idea to let your friends and family know that you will be doing work for a few hours so that no one distracts you.
This is an extremely important step towards getting your assignments done in less time. You need to figure out how long each task or each portion of your homework will take to complete, then you need to set a schedule that you can keep besides you and make sure that you stick to it. Work on the more urgent tasks first, then work on the easiest ones last.
You aren’t going to get very far in your assignment if you don’t understand what it is you need to do. Spend a few minutes before each section reading through the questions or looking through sample problems. If you have a written assignment, make sure you review the prompt and fully understand what it is you are being asked to write.
You aren’t going to get much work done if you’re low on energy or are feeling your stomach grumble every few minutes. Keep healthy snacks within reach of your workspace. We recommend fruits and vegetables which have been proven to help your mind focus and might even improve your memory. Don’t forget to use small rewards as a way to get you motivated to complete a list of tasks. Take short breaks after every 10 or 15 questions. This will help you work through the problem sets much quicker.
Nobody ever does their homework well if they are bored. Find ways to avoid boredom even if it means doing shorter sessions more often of your homework. Once you are bored, your homework standards slip.
You can improve your memory. There are exercises and activities you can do just as you might exercise some other muscles in your body. Learn to improve your memory.
Keywords are just that, the key words. Develop the skill of being able to read something and highlight the keywords. These are the words which will trigger ideas in your mind later on.
Know how long you are able to concentrate. Some people can concentrate for much longer periods than others. But if you know how long it is you can concentrate effectively, then set your homework tasks accordingly.
