You have decided to study Economics in College, a course that combines the discipline of mathematics with the broad study of social science which covers all human economic activity. College alone is a huge transition for most people, a totally different environment to High School. Mom and Dad are not peering over your shoulder anymore to make sure your work gets completed. You have received your first assignment. Hey, you have done homework before in High School, how different can keeping on top of your college homework be?
The day to day structure of High School is missing, and your classes are erratic. It is easy to get so wrapped up in non-class activities that you find you have missed a deadline for coursework. With so many other students to teach, the only time your Economics tutors notice missing work is the end of the semester when they are adding up the grades – and failing you.
It is up to you to know exactly when you have to hand in your work and entirely your problem to make sure it is of top quality.
Here are some tips to help.
Nobody ever does their homework well if they are bored. Find ways to avoid boredom even if it means doing shorter sessions more often of your homework. Once you are bored, your homework standards slip.
You can improve your memory. There are exercises and activities you can do just as you might exercise some other muscles in your body. Learn to improve your memory.
Keywords are just that, the key words. Develop the skill of being able to read something and highlight the keywords. These are the words which will trigger ideas in your mind later on.
Know how long you are able to concentrate. Some people can concentrate for much longer periods than others. But if you know how long it is you can concentrate effectively, then set your homework tasks accordingly.
